Opening day, in order

The closed Saturday that puts the warehouse into SavaFlow. Most of the day is work in the building rather than work on a screen, and the order is what matters: each step assumes the one before it is finished.

This page keeps no record of what has been done. Nothing on it decides whether the warehouse is open. Print it and carry it, and let the sweep, the reconciliation and the sign-off be the record.

It prints as one sheet with a box beside each step to tick with a pen.
  1. Step 1Recorded in SavaFlow

    Name the areas and shelves

Before the day, at a desk, write the building down: the areas, the racks and the shelves, each with the code that will be painted or stuck on it.

This is the first step of the opening day because everything after it records goods into one of these names. Nothing can be scanned into a shelf SavaFlow has never heard of.

SavaFlow does not print shelf labels, and no other screen does either. The labels for the racks are made outside SavaFlow.

  2. Step 2Work in the building

    Rearrange the goods

Move every item to where it is going to live. This is the physical work of the day and it is most of it.

SavaFlow records nothing here and cannot tell you when it is done. Nothing is scanned yet.

  3. Step 3Work in the building

Label the rooms, sections and shelves

Put the code on every room, section and shelf, so that what is written on the rack matches what was written down.

Somebody scanning a carton later types the code they can see in front of them. A rack with no label, or with a label that does not match, cannot have anything recorded onto it.

  4. Step 4Recorded in SavaFlow

Walk the building and check every name

Go through the whole warehouse with the plan and compare it to the racks. Correct anything that does not match, standing in front of it.

A plan nobody has stood in front of is a draft, whether or not it has been published. Correcting a name here is expected and is not a sign somebody made a mistake earlier.

  5. Step 5Recorded in SavaFlow

    Scan the on-hand baseline

Everybody works in one session and scans what is on the shelves. Each phone remembers where it is, so people can stop and pick up again.

The names have to be settled before this starts, because every scan here records a piece into one of those names.

  6. Step 6Recorded in SavaFlow

Reconcile the count, then the owner signs it off

Compare what was scanned against the history that was imported, look at what the sweep never saw, and then the owner confirms the count.

Finishing the scanning is not the warehouse opening. The sign-off is the moment daily use begins, and everything the warehouse records afterwards is measured against it.

    Warehouse setup

Goods that arrive after the warehouse is open do not come through this day at all. They are booked in at the dock and put away onto a shelf in the ordinary way.
